First off, yey for red hair dye. This blog was a good idea.
Second, I need help. I dye my hair from a box red pretty much every six weeks and have been for sooo long now. I like to switch up the colors of red. My preferred dye is Feria in Ruby Fusion or Ruby Rush. Now I wanna go lighter though, more like an orangey red. But every time I try to lighten it, it doesn't take and stays the same dark red.
What would you recommend doing? I hate bleaching my hair but I feel like I might have to.
Thanks so much!
Ahh, I love Feria. The colors are so intense.
Anyway, on to my answer! I’ve kind of had this problem before. I died my hair a really dark red (it was almost like purple-brown…I don’t even know what it was haha). I think really the only thing you can do is wait until your hair fades a lot. Start washing your hair with normal shampoo in case you already haven’t. This will help wash out your remaining color.
Also, if you go to a salon, they have safe treatments that can cleanse your hair to wash away some deposits (It’s not necessarily a color stripping treatment). At the salon I go to, I think it’s called a Beach Treatment, but it could be called different things at different places. I’ve gotten this treatment twice before dyeing, and it’s helped color stay in my hair.
Or maybe you could even just gradually start dyeing your hair lighter colors, going lighter each time. It might end up being a long process, but bleaching can be really bad for your hair, so don’t result to it right away until you try some other things :)
Hope I was able to help!
