Red Spotlight: Florence Welch

February 28, 2011 by redhairradiance

Well, I said I’d start doing spotlights on awesome famous redheads. And I thought since Florence was on the Oscars last night, this would be a perfect time to do it!

If you think you’ve been seeing this woman everywhere, it’s because you have! She performed at the VMA’s, the Grammys, and then the Oscars last night! I first found out about her on the VMA’s back in September (her red hair captured my interest, of course), and I went out and bought a copy of her album and was an instant fan.

If you don’t know who Florence is, she is more commonly known by her recording name Florence + the Machine, which is the name for her (Florence) and the artists she collaborates with on her songs (the machine). You may have heard her songs “Dog Days Are Over” and “Kiss With a Fist” various places, and you probably loved them haha. She’s won countless awards in her homeland of England, and was nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys.

Her voice is just captivating, and if you’ve never heard of her, you should check her out on YouTube or iTunes!

Florence claims to dye her hair at home with box dyes, which is great news for us poor people! She says “any cheap home dye will do!” This just goes to show you that you can get an awesome red look at home :)

Keep ‘em coming!

I just wanted to remind you all to keep submitting not only your questions, but pictures of yourself and your red hair! Make sure to include what dye you used, and any other product recommendations.

Sorry I haven’t been able to update as much as I want. These past two weeks have been the busiest of the semester so far!

I’m from Mexico, so i guess this whole ‘dye-thingy’ is way differente here, anyways, i’ve used like 4 different types of red but the one that i’ve liked the most and used the most is this:

i like it ‘cause you can get a pretty bright red but at the same time is like orage-ish, so yeah… the result is this:

recently i added some orange to my red hair and i think it looks waaaaay better than before, results:

Submission: more-or-less-human

I’ve been dyeing my hair red for a few years now and have avoided bleaching it the entire time. I use L’Oreal Excellence HiColor for dark hair (Sizzling Copper). I believe the instructions say to use 20 volume developer, but I use 30.

As far as shampoo goes, I don’t use any fancy shampoo, but I wash my hair every other day in cold water and deep condition once a week. Regardless of what I do my colour fades in about two weeks to a golden red, but that’s just because I have stubborn hair. This picture was taken maybe 4 days after I redyed.

I get asked frequently if I’m a natural redhead. Apparently it looks more natural on me then my real hair colour, which I find amusing. XD

Thanks for submitting! Your hair really does look natural :)

Apologies, and a project for everyone!!

I am soooo sorry that I’ve been MIA for a few days. It’s been a crazy past few days and weekend!

Who watched the Grammys? Hayley Williams and Florence Welch were representing the redheads ;) (and Rihanna, I suppose haha)

Speaking of redheaded celebrities! One thing I would like to do on this blog is do posts that spotlight famous redheads, such as Florence and Hayley, like I mentioned above. I know with Hayley, she has given tips about how she cares for her hair, and I also know the Twitter and website of the person who dyes her hair. So that might be interesting :)

ANOTHER project I would like to start on this blog involves all of you :) I want to make this blog a collaborative effort; a community of people sharing information and advice with each other, combined by a common interest.

So what I would like to do is to have you submit pictures of you with your red hair and what dye you used. This way, everyone can see your beautiful hair AND learn about new dyes that they could use! I will post all the submissions that I get, so don’t be shy! :) And if possible, tell us what shampoo you use too!

Thanks to my followers for showing interest in this blog!
